Development on the Move: Measuring and Optimizing the Economic and Social Impacts of Migration

This ground-breaking, flagship project aims to contribute to research and policymaking on the impacts of migration on development. Six commissioned research teams will each undertake a study examining the impacts of international migration on development in their chosen country of study.

Each study involves two key components:
* Household survey examining developmental impacts of international migration on the country in question.
* 50-100 page country report analyzing both the developmental impacts and the role of policy in enhancing the positive effects of migration while minimizing negative impacts.

Budget: US $500,000

Deadline: November 26, 2007

In a recent project, I accidentally came across the list of most influential 50 Moldovans in the VIP magazine. Much to my surprise, but probably reflective of the patriarchic society, only 6% of these influential people are women.

Call for Papers Anti-Human Trafficking Conference, Spring 2008

We are seeking panelists from diverse backgrounds, including activists, legislators, academics, NGO representatives, religious groups, and victim advocates. We are also seeking booth and art display proposals that focus on issues relating to human trafficking from individuals and organizations.

We are particularly interested in panel, paper, and booth proposals on the following issues as they relate to trafficking in persons: labor, gender, sex, children, US foreign policy, militarization, economics, politics/policy, the EU, activism, religious perspectives, prevention/protection/prosecution/best practices. New resource for government M&E systems

The World Bank Independent Evaluation Group has recently published a study on How to Build M&E Systems to Support Better Government.  The author of the study is Keith Mackay, and the book is divided six chapters covering a wide variety of topics:

  • monitoring and evaluation for governments (M & E concepts, methods, strategies, and plans);
  • monitoring and evaluation country experiences and good practices (Chile, Colombia, Australia, and the special case of Africa);
  • lessons learned from experience on building M&E systems, as well as ways to persuade governments to set up M&E Systems;
  • ways to strengthen a government’s M&E system and ways to set up action plans;
